Donations from Dairyland’s retired Genoa Station #3 power plant (Genoa, Wis.) are benefiting community members in the region.

The DeSoto (Wis.) High School is utilizing laboratory equipment donations from Dairyland’s Genoa Site. The Eleva-Strum (Wis.) School District received professional equipment from the Genoa Site Maintenance Shop to be used by Eleva-Strum’s Cardinal Manufacturing Program at the high school. The in-school manufacturing business introduces students to career opportunities in manufacturing and teaches soft skills for future employment.

Habitat for Humanity in La Crosse has selected a significant amount of furniture and infrastructure items from Dairyland’s Genoa Site for its local ReStore business. The ReStore is Habitat for Humanity’s discount home improvement store. ReStore sells new and used furniture, appliances, building supplies and home goods. ReStore profits are used to build and repair homes in the Coulee Region.

Earlier this year, Dairyland supported the Genoa-Harmony Fire & Rescue with a donation towards the purchase of a new AED. The volunteer-based Fire and EMS department serves the Village of Genoa and Townships of Genoa and Harmony. Dairyland is thankful for local emergency services professionals who help make sure everyone goes home safe, every day.

Dairyland’s Genoa Station #3 coal-fired 345 MW power plant was retired on June 1, 2021, following 52 years of providing safe, reliable power to the region. The Blaske Boat Landing on the Mississippi River and on-site restroom facilities adjacent to Dairyland’s Genoa Site property remain open to the public and supported by Dairyland. The boat landing sees the most traffic of all landings in Pool 9 of the Mississippi River. It is utilized year-around by boating and fishing enthusiasts.
