  • Dairyland Power Cooperative gives to September 11 Fund (October 12, 2001)
    Dairyland Power Cooperative, based in La Crosse, Wis., donated $5,000 to the United Way's September 11 Fund during the local "United We Stand" media campaign to provide relief to families of the victims of last month's terrorist attacks. The charitable contribution is one of many the Dairyland Board of Directors approves to assist communities and ease suffering in times of great difficulty.
  • Dairyland Power Cooperative Issues 100 MW RFP (June 26, 2001)
    Dairyland Power Cooperative, through its marketing affiliate GEN~SYS Energy, has issued a comprehensive Request For Proposal (RFP) for 80-100 MWs of peaking capacity and energy in the 2003-2006 timeframe. Dairyland is an upper Midwest generation and transmission cooperative serving one-half million customers in five states. Dairyland has generation assets in excess of 1,000 MWs. The RFP is seeking 40-50 MWs of peaking capacity to be in service by June 1, 2004, and 40-50 MWs by May 1, 2006. Dairyland's preference is for peaking capacity utilizing high efficiency quick start gas turbines commonly referred to as aero-derivatives.
  • Elk Mound Combustion Turbines Enhance Reliability (June 14, 2001)
    Dairyland Power Cooperative's two new Elk Mound Combustion Turbines in Chippewa County, Wis., are operational and enhancing the reliability of the power supply in the region. The two combustion turbines add more than 80 megawatts (MW) of reliable peaking capacity and energy to the Dairyland system and the Upper Midwest, at a cost of $43 million.
  • Dairyland Power's 60th Annual Meeting Highlights (June 6, 2001)
    Nearly 700 delegates and guests attended Dairyland Power Cooperative's 60th Annual Meeting at the La Crosse Center earlier today. Wisconsin Gov. Scott McCallum delivered the afternoon keynote address and presented Dairyland with a commendation "for 60 great years of service."

  • View Peregrine Falcons via Dairyland Power's Bird-Cam (April 20, 2001)
    With the return of spring, visitors to Dairyland Power Cooperative's website visitors have a rare opportunity to observe a nesting pair of Peregrine falcons through our new "Bird-Cam." Early this spring, thanks to the efforts of Dairyland employees, management, and the Raptor Resource Project, a remote TV camera was installed and focused on the Peregrine nest box located 450 feet up the smoke stack at the Alma Generating Station. In 1997, this nest box became home to the first wild pair of Peregrines (Wisconsin endangered species) to successfully hatch chicks in Western Wisconsin in over 25 years.   • Prairie Enthusiasts Preserve Our Environment for the Future (April 17, 2001)
    The Prairie Enthusiasts will be performing a controlled burn on the prairie site adjacent to Dairyland Power Cooperative's Genoa # 3 Station this Friday, April 20, beginning at about noon. According to George Johnston, senior environmental biologist at Dairyland and Prairie Enthusiast member, the burn will take approximately two hours to finish. The group will be performing the controlled burn on the south half to maintain habitat for prairie wildlife. They performed a similar burn last year on the north half of the prairie.
  • Ice Fishermen and Snowmobilers Use Caution on Lake Flambeau (March 9, 2001)
    Dairyland Power Cooperative urges caution by those using Lake Flambeau for recreation activities in coming weeks. The ice becomes unstable and dangerous as Spring approaches.
  • Flambeau Hydroelectric Station Celebrates 50 Years of Operation (January 3, 2001)
    Jan. 4 marks 50 years of operation for Dairyland Power Cooperative's 21 megawatt Flambeau Hydroelectric Station, located at Ladysmith, Wis.
