Groundbreaking for Dairyland and Richland Solar Projects

May 23, 2016 - Dairyland Power Cooperative, Richland Electric Cooperative and SoCore Energy celebrated the start of construction of two solar projects with a groundbreaking event near Hillsboro, Wis., on Monday, May 23. This is the first of 12 major solar projects announced by Dairyland Power. Dairyland has power purchase agreements in place with two developers to purchase over 15 MW of renewable energy from multiple new utility-scale photovoltaic solar facilities in Wisconsin.

Dairyland Provides Solar for Schools

April 22, 2016 - Three Western Wisconsin public schools will soon benefit from Dairyland’s Solar for Schools initiative. This summer, 12 kilowatt solar installations will be constructed on-site at Alma Area School (K-12), Cochrane-Fountain City School (K-12) and De Soto Area Middle & High School. Dairyland issued a Request for Proposals for the projects in fall 2015, seeking an experienced contractor to procure, install and maintain a fixed-panel, pole-mounted solar system at each school. Dairyland Names Nate Melby CIO

March 1, 2016 - Dairyland is pleased to announce the hire of Nathaniel “Nate” Melby to the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective Feb. 29. As CIO, Melby will be responsible for all aspects of Dairyland’s information technology and systems. He will provide leadership for the development and implementation of information technology initiatives that advance business strategies. A native of the La Crosse area, Melby holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems from UW-La Crosse, an MBA from UW-Whitewater and a PhD in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University.

Dairyland Power Donates $10,000 to Alma Little League

September 17, 2015 - Dairyland Power has donated a total of $10,000 to the Alma (Wis.) Little League in support of improvements to the community baseball field. Dairyland Power contributed $5,000, which was then matched in full by CoBank, a national cooperative bank, through CoBank’s Sharing Success program. The donation is funding improvements such as a tall backstop fence and protective fencing in front of the dugouts, as well as new lighting poles.

Highlights from Dairyland Power's 74th Annual Meeting

June 3, 2015 - Approximately 600 electric cooperative leaders and guests attended Dairyland Power Cooperative’s 74th annual meeting at the La Crosse Center on June 3. Dan Korn, Chairman of the Board and director representing Vernon Electric Cooperative, presided. The theme of the meeting was Evolving Cooperatively. As Dairyland heads into its 75th year, the cooperative continues to evolve and work with employees, members and the public to provide safe, sustainable, reliable and affordable electricity.

Dairyland Power Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio

April 22, 2015 - Dairyland is expanding its commitment to renewable resources with the purchase of output from Sartell Hydro, a hydroelectric generation station located on the Mississippi River in Sartell, Minn. A long-term power purchase agreement between Dairyland and Eagle Creek Renewable Energy for the facility’s total output of 10 MW was effective in April. Sartell Hydro is expected to power approximately 4,500 homes with water-powered electricity.

Ben Porath Named VP, Power Delivery

February 2, 2015 - Dairyland Power is pleased to announce the promotion of Ben Porath to the position of Vice President, Power Delivery, effective Feb. 2. He succeeds Chuck Callies who is retiring on April 2 after 24 years of service to Dairyland. “Ben possesses a skill set that combines strategic thinking and the technical expertise needed to be a leader in our complex electric utility industry,” said Barb Nick, President and CEO.

Dairyland Honored at Renewables Summit

January 15, 2015 - Dairyland Power and three of its member cooperatives were honored at the statewide Energy Policy Summit on Jan. 9 at UW-Madison’s Union South. The event is organized by RENEW Wisconsin, which inducts renewable energy projects built in the state during 2014 into its annual honor roll. Dairyland was recognized for a major solar installation located at Vernon Electric Cooperative (Westby, Wis.). Dairyland added two, 520 kW solar installations in 2014. The first, located at Vernon Electric, came online in June.

DPC leads in progress on WI Renewable Portfolio Standard

November 24, 2014 - Dairyland Power Cooperative has been identified as having made the most progress in meeting its 2015 Wisconsin Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) among utilities in the state, according to a report recently prepared for and accepted by the Public Service Commission (PSC). Dairyland topped the list of Wisconsin electric providers by meeting 165 percent of its 2015 RPS requirements. In 2013, 13.93 percent of Dairyland’s total sales for resale in Wisconsin (member cooperatives and municipals) came from renewable energy resources.
