Dam Failure: Actions You can Take

What you should know to prepare for the event of a dam failure:

  • Determine if your residence is within an inundation zone (the area at risk for flooding during a dam failure) using our inundation maps.
  • Next familiarize yourself with the area you live in and find the best evacuation route.
  • If a siren warning occurs, or you receive a Reverse 911 call, seek high ground immediately. First choose the most efficient route out of the inundation zone. Local emergency response agencies will use television and radio to announce the location of evacuation shelters.
